Yet more social networking 'stuff'.

Since my last but one post about Twitter, I've been experimenting with something called brightkite. brightkite is a kind of twitter on steroids. It goes much further than twitter and integrates geotagging location, adding photos etc. You can cross post from brightkite to twitter if you wish, so all your comments you send in brightkite end up being sent to yout twitter followers too.

At present its really only available via a web browser but there has just been released a beta app for the iPhone. There is some work in the early stages on a java client for brightkite which should work on the Blackberry.

One of the neat things of brightkite is being able to update your location and see who is nearby. This can be done via the mobile web interface but its a bit clunky. There is a very basic application available for Blackberry  which pulls your 'placemarks' (basically locations you have bookmarked) from your brightkite account and easily allows you to set your location with a couple of clicks. It's called BBPlacemarks and  can be found here

I found it did not work on my Blackberry which is behind a BES but I contacted the author, Jason Emerick, and he has modified it so it now works. Thanks Jason.
