First impressions are very good. It's super easy to use and has a HDMI output (comes with cable) and you can view your results on your HD TV in minutes.
It has a pull out USB connector on the base which allows you to plug it in to your computer to download, edit and upload your clips. There is some software pre-loaded on the Vado HD which allows you to do basic editing and uploading to YouTube etc.
Good points:-
- 8gb storage, enough for 2 hours HD recording.
- Easy to use, sometimes too easy see below!
- Removable battery.
- Good quality recordings.
Bad Points:-
- It has crashed, completely locked up on me twice within 1 hour of recording.
- The pull out USB plug is on the base and stops you standing the camera up on the base.
- Too easy to delete clips. Menu is easily accessed by mis-pressing buttons.
On the whole its a great piece of kit for quick, high quality recordings of video. Looks like the software on it needs some work, a litle rough around the edges and crashes requiring a battery removal.

Well, let's see some actual videoclips from this miracle-cam!
Not on youtube ofcourse, as this will destroy any and all quality in the video..
And, how is the pricing?
Is there a SDHC slot for optional memory expansion?
How long does the (rechargable??) battery last?
The battery claims to have up to 2 hours run-time but is removable so you could carry a spare if needed. I've not tested this yet.
There is no slot for expansion, it records for 2 hours and 10 minutes on the inbuilt 8gb memory.
It's not designed to be a replacement for a mid to top end camcorder in my opinion but more for convenience with good quality. It can be slipped in the pocket without any problem, for me this is a big bonus.
Not sure where I could upload some samples? Youtube does have a HD upload but not sure how effective it will be to demo it?
Is it something like the Flip but better? Can provide some pics? Anyways, you can try vimeo ... it handles HD better.
Yes it is similar to the Flip HD but the Vado has a removable battery and the Vado has 8gb against the Flip's 4gb storage.
Which means the Vado can store 2 hours of HD footage where as the Flip can only store 1 hour. These are the two main reasons I went for the Vado.
Thanks for the reminder about Vado for uploading, I will check that out.
Ooops, should have said
"Thanks for the reminder about Vimeo for uploading"
There are some reasonable quality HD clips on YouTube already, that give a reasonable impression, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZqznWNsVVA.
Looks a little shaky (lack of image stabiliser), but for the price / size / convenience it looks good value for me. Very tempted. I believe you can also get mini-tripods too to enable you to stand the unit and improve stability?
Yes you are right about the slight shakiness of the images, my last two Sony camcorders have both had image stabilisers inbuilt, you really have to think hard about how you are holding it or try and rest it on something etc.
That said for the price, quality and convenience I don't think it can be beat.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the review. I work at Creative and wanted to check if you're still having problems with the Vado crashing. We have a firmware update posted to our support site that should take care of that Shoot me an email if you get a chance.
